Concept - Aptitude Simplification BODMAS

Natural Number : A 'Natural Number' is a no. that used commonly as such, a whole number- 1,2,3,4,5

Whole Number : A number without fractions; an integer - 1,2,3,4,5 and -1,-2,-3,-4,-5 (In integer may be positive or negative)

Prime Number : A number has more than 2 factors it is called "Composite Numebr" - Eg. 2,3,5,7,11 ( These number are divided by 1 and itself only).

Odd Number : An odd number is an integer which is not a multiple of two; Eg: 3,5,7 etc.

Even Number : An even number is an integer which is "evenly divisible" by two; Eg: 2,4,6,8,10.

Follow BODMAS Rule for All Simplication Questions

B : First Brackets i.e. () [] are cleared

O : Next 'of' is cleared

D : Next Division

M :Next Multiplication

A: Then Addition

S : Finally Subtration is evaluated

Eg 1 :

(5103+2696+3865)÷324=?

First Bracket is cleared

=11664 / 324

= 36

Tip: When Division or Multiplication is given Then...Start from Left to right !

Eg 2) 84 ÷ 4 x 0.45 + 18.5 - 2.95 = ?

First division is cleared and start from left

84/4 x 0.45 + 18.5 - 2.95 = ?

Then Multiplication is cleared

21 x 0.45 + 18.5 - 2.95 = ?

Then do addition

9.45 + 18.5 - 2.95 = ?

Finally do Subtraction

27.95 - 2.95 = ?

Answer is 25

Mixed Fraction Addition!

For example :

1 3/4 means One and three-quarters.

Convert into Improper Fraction such as 7/4 or 4/3 ...That is seven fourths or seven quarters;

Follow three steps while simplifing mixed fractions.

Step 1: Convert into Improper fraction
Step 2: Add them using addition operation
Step 3: Finally back to mixed fractions

Eg 3 :

For making common denominator convert 7/2  into 14/4 So that  Common Denominator is 4;

Finally Convert into mixed fraction

Mixed Fraction Subtraction!

Tip : Above steps are applicable mixed fraction!

Eg 3 :

For making common denominator convert 63/4  into 189/12 and 53/6 into 106/12 So that  Common Denominator is 12; Then do subtract operation.

Subtraction of mixed fraction from whole number!

Eg 4:

40/8 same as 40 divide by 8 which is 5.

Or Simply 5 x  8 – 3 (40-3)  37 So that 37/ 8

Practice following examples:-

1)40 ÷ 0.80 ÷ 0.20 = ?

2)85.3 - 5.07 - 14.008 =?

3)1 1/2 + 3 1/2=

4)5 1/2 - 4 1/2 =

5)10 - 5 1/2

Answers:

1) 250;

2) 66.222 (first add all negative values (-5.07 + -14.008) then subtract from positive value i.e. 85.3);

3) 5;

4) 1;

5) 9/2 or 4 1/2
